54 Corvette gauges

A friend of mine is restoring a 54 and when the body shop removed the gauges they destroyed the gas/amp set. Where can he find a new set? I assume an original set would cost $$$$$. Are there reporductions sold THanks

There is a set on Ebay right now. Buy It Now is $199 as I recall.

You can also buy the mechanicals NOS or good used on ebay for the passenger cars and replace just the units inside the original gage housing. While it's opened up, you can clean the insde and replace bezels and lenses.

You just need to make sure that the gage needles are mounted on the bottom of the gage instead of swinging from the top of the gages.

Doesn't the body shop that ruined the gauges have some kind of insurance that covers their mistakes? Shouldn't they be responsible
in this case to foot the replacement costs or maybe half the cost?

Not knowing what kind of working agreement your Friend has, maybe
they are Friends.

I have a Friend that does body work and he always has said this:...
"WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A $1,000 PAINT JOB AND A
$500 PAINT JOB........."MORE MONEY IN MY POCKET!"

He's joking of course.
