    1968 Convertible Top Push-Down Bumpers

Did all '68 convertibles have the push-down bumpers in the deck lid? The '68 I'm working on does not have them, nor are there any bolt holes on the deck lid for them. I just reinstalled the top frame and it doesn't fold tight enough to close the deck lid properly.

      Joel,

I'm not exactly sure what your referring to. Could you post a picture?

If you are talking about the 2 pins on the convertible top that goes through the deck lid, yes mine have that and all the other '68's I've seen have it too. I don't think your referring to that however and would like more clarification.

So 68's had none, my 71 has one, but has provisions for two. Did any years actually use two?

          Terry,

The '68 I'm working on, a July '68 car, doesn't have them, so can't take photos. The AIM I have shows the bumpers on UPCs 1F6 and 1F7. This car doesn't have any bolt holes in the deck lid for the bumpers, yet every catalog I've looked at lists them as a '68 -'75 part; so I was wondering if they were added toward the very end of '68 production, or perhaps I'm looking at a non-original deck lid. This is a fairly low-mileage car and all numbers, date codes, etc. support nearly 100% originality, which is why this particular item got my attention.

            Joel:

That's very interesting. I thought that very late 68's, like the one you are working on would have them (or one). I learn something from this board every day. Thank you.

              Joel,

Thanks for the AIM reference. I see what you're talking about. My Dec '67 Built '68 does not have them. They must push down on a stored top.

Most likely the pads were installed on late '68 and '69's since I have been told that convertibles were the only style Corvettes being produced in St. Louis in the early production of '68's. I seems, if I remember correctly, that the T-tops were having a problem and they did not produce any until after January of '68. Others may know better.
