    '66 Idler Arm Part Number

Can anyone help me with the original GM part number for the idler arm? I have looked at my AIM front to back and back to front. There is no reference to the arm that I can find. The only page that shows where it goes only shows the bolts. That is UPC 9 / A2 or my page F208. Maybe my book is missing it ! Any help appreciated. Thank You

    Don,

off hand I can give you the last 3 numbers embossed on the lower arm. They are 185 I don't recall the whole # I'm sure some one will chime in or if you do a search for idler arm it should be in the archives.

Rich & Peter, I stand corrected. I looked under a more powerful magnifier and the next to the last number could be an "8" in lieu of a "9".
So I have 3779185. I guess that is correct. Thanks again for the help.

As Peter mentioned, the PART number for the idler arm assembly is GM #3779184. This number appears nowhere on the part, though. The forging number on the shaft component of this piece is GM #3779185. However, the same shaft is used for TWO different idler arm assemblies, so you can't positively identify the idler arm by the forging number on the shaft. One of the assemblies is for 63-82 Corvettes and the other is for some 1963 light trucks.

The way you tell the difference between them is to look at the BRACKET component of the assembly (i.e. the part that bolts to the frame). On a Corvette piece, the bracket has a single offset. On the truck piece, the bracket has two offsets.

No Don, you didn't miss it. It is not there.
The Idler arm part # is not listed in the A.I.M. due to its being a component of the provided steering linkage assembly.
