    Trailing Arm Bolt Finish

I searched the archives with no luck. Can someone tell me the finish on trailing arm bolts, washers and nuts for a 1969.

    Thanks, Ned

If you're referring to the forward bolts, the bolts were zinc plated. The slotted nuts were zinc plated with a very light chromate (gold) overplate. The washers, I do not recall. I think they were zinc plated but they may have been natural.

Joe, Yes I did mean the forward bolts. Ill try to get the finish correct on the nuts with the light gold finish. Thanks for the information..... Ned

Any one know about the washers? Mine is a 70.

My early notes show those washers (late 70) as black oxide, but that probably means they were black phosphate...later revelation indicated black oxide was used sparingly on Corvettes of this era.

In determining finishes, I sometimes had to make a best guess due to corrosion. In view of that, the washers could also have been natural, but were definitely not zinc. IF the washers were natural, it wouldn't be logical, but I've seen other natural chassis parts that also weren't logical given the low cost of phosphate finishing.

Thanks Chuck. I have learned that on this car the Silver cad stuff usually still has some evidence of that. And some of the balck stuff you can find traces with a little cleaning. But I was trying out my new tumbler about six monthes ago on these and didn't plan ahead. I learned to keep better notes
