    1963 Aim

1963 convertible_ In my 63 AIM __ Sec C60, plate 5, item 18__ the part number is blank. Perhaps someone has an AIM that has the part number identified in it. It is for the crank pulley to be used with AC installed.

    Steve:

Seems to me that parts not installed at St. Louis were not called out by number in the manual. Joe will pop in and assist on this one, I'm sure.

The symbol indicates that it attaches the same as the base-car pulley, but the part number is in the C60 section of the Engineering Parts List (which was never released outside of GM). I believe it may be P/N 3744043.

        Re: 1963 Aim

        John, thank you.

3744043 is the number in my AIM for the base configuration crank pulley, and I have that pulley.

Related question_ on the same sheet 5, a number is given for a generator pulley (1949355) that is different from the base configuration (1958095). I have an aftermarket alternator instead of the generator. How likely is it that the specified generator pulley would fit on the alternator and give the propert alignment? I can see that something will be required to align the alternator belt. Alignment was fine when the alternator was on the passenger side, but since I moved it to the driver side for the AC install, it is requiring alignment.

Steve, Here is a pic of a 63 air condition alternator pulley. It's the only pic I can help with and it shows the arrangment of the belts.

            Thanks. Pictures always help.

              Steve -

Although the Assembly Manual sheet calls it a "generator", it was always an alternator from '63-up. At that time, the word "alternator" was trademarked by Chrysler (who invented it), so GM called it an "AC generator", then the "Delcotron".

I would have thought "Generator" and "Alternator" were generic electrical industry terms - used long before the auto industry got a hold of them. I'll have to go back into some of my old text books.

I took the United Delco Courses at a GM training center outside of Pittsburgh in 61 and 62. We had to learn all about the new Delcotron.
Haven't heard that term in a long time John. JD
