Sorry for the delay. I have been hard at work, but I have definitely hit a few snags. So, at the last post, I had covered my interior with Hushmat and had gotten the rear area covered with padding. So, I will move forward to the seating area.
1. I dry-fitted all the padding and it was obvious there were some cuts that needed to be made. Just minor adjustments around the seat cut outs mostly and bit of cutting at the top edge of the footwells. I have an AC car, so it is possible the pass side footwell was a bit more restricted than non AC cars.
2. I took one of my seats and made a rough outline of the seat rails on a piece of poster board. Once I had the pattern of the rails mounted to the seat, I unscrewed the rails from my pass seat and used them to more carefully trace the correct outline of the rails on the poster board.
3. I then overlayed that pattern on the poster board with my padding piece and trimmed where necessary - again, mostly around the seat rails so that the fit was perfect.
4. Since the seat rails are identical on each seat, I could repeat this process for the drivers side.
5. Now I was comfortable that the rails would fit around the padding once installed. I made sure to clear out the seat rail screw holes of Hushmat before gluing down the padding. I dry fit the piece beneath the seat with the piece in the footwell to make sure they properly aligned before gluing down.
6. Again, repeat on divers side. I noticed the padding needed some cutting around the headlight dimmer switch and made sure on both sides to trim the padding a bit away from the insulation panel (drivers) and AC/heater box (pass) so that the carpet at least on the drivers side could be easily slide under the upper black insulation panel behind the dash.
7. Make sure to leave a gap on both sides in front of the storage compartment wall because that carpet extends all the way down into the space for best fit. I actually added extra pieces of padding here and had to pull them out when it came time to put the piece of carpet in.
8. Finally, on the drivers side, I glued everything down. Don't forget to glue the gas pedal block down at this time before you install the carpet and of course make sure you have cleaned all the screw holes clear of Hushmat.
Here are some pics. Sorry about the heater in the one pic. Weather wasn't as warm as I would have liked it so I was using it to keep the interior warm for the glue to dry faster. Tomorrow I will try and post some of the carpet pics and go over the problems I have had.
