    3720616 pulley reinforcement

Sorry to ask this redundent question about the water pump reinforcement. I have seen in the AIM for 1967 base engine the cut away in section 6 showing the 3720616 reinforcement. On my car, the reinforcement is on the outside of the pulley (looks like it's been there for a long time), and if I put it inside there is a small space I guess because it was formed by tightening on the outside.

Is there anyone with a 1967 original 300 HP car that can confirm the orientation of the reinforcement, (inside or outside).

    Tim -

The reinforcement goes INSIDE the pulley. Always.

Tim, I am 3rd owner. I have had my 67 since 1971. When I pulled my fan for a fan clutch (long ago) no reinforcement. SB base engine C-60, K-19.( 2 belt) double pulley, maybe that makes a difference. Dale

Thanks for the reply Dale and John, I can't fit the reinforcement inside without a space, (does not sit flat) due to it being tightened on the outside, someone was here before me, I saw the pic in the AIM.and the part # call out

I read a post from 2002 where Joe Lucia stated reinforcement went outside but he may have made a mistake. Inside makes complete sense but first I will check pulley alignment.

If there is anyone else that has a original 300 HP 67 I would appreciate input. Thanks as always

Just thought I'd post this pic of the Chev Service News, June-July 1964, of the use / installation of the '616' reinforcement. I realize it does not apply to 1967 Corvettes, but does show that sometimes it went outside the pulley, and even BOTH sides.

            Yes, Timothy.
All of my original 300's had the reinforcement inside the pulley.
Thinking about and looking at the pully configuration, in order to serve the purpose for which the reinforcement was intended, it must be placed on the inside.
