'72 454 A/C Hose assembly removal from POA - continued

Help! I'm still trying to get the compressor hose assembly out of my car. The flare fittings at both ends of the POA valve seem to be impossibly stuck - at least with using standard open-end wrenches.

Does anyone know where I can buy decent 6-point flare wrenches in 1-1/16 and 1-1/4? I'd settle for a crowfoot flare in those sizes as well. I'm reluctant to us 12-point wrenches out of fear of rounding off the flare nuts...

    Thanks in advance.

Keep soaking the lines with penetrating fld. You cant' yank on them to much or you might crack the evap. core. I know there aint much room in there. I have a junk draw of cheap wrenches that I heat bend or cut to get into some awful places like that.

Randy, I feel your pain. I went through the same problem with my 68's a/c. I did as Rich suggested and continued to soaked the lines over a period of time. I also had to cut down and grind some open end wrenches to be able to get them into that very tight spot. One thing I remember doing, I used some wood blocking to help support the evaporator tubes while I was pulling on the wrenches.

        Randy:
I'll ask the most obvious question first: did you remove the metal splash shield from under the POA valve area? Second, if you can get the top fastener loose You could unfasten the POA valve from the firewalll and raise it up high enough to get a good wrench on the lower. You could take the whole hose assembly off the compressor and detach other hose and take it all out of the car to get it off the POA valve. This is what I needed to do the first time I removed the POA from my '69. Just some thoughts.
