    C1 assembly

My car is a 60 with a base engine & powerglide built in mid-Feb. I do not have a transmission tunnel shield nor is there any evidence of one every being on this car. There are no holes in the fiberglass or cover plates that some previous posts talk about. I know that the body was never removed so my question is:
    1. did the assemblers just forget to install everything that was supposed to go on a car?
    2. did they work to the AIM only or was there a traveler or other paperwork that called out assy instructions?
    3. were there any quality control checks on the line to insure proper assy?

Just curious since there seems to be a variation in the assembly between cars.

There are also no nut plates in the body to hold the outside flange of the softtop mount bracket although they are called for in the AIM.
    Thanks.

    Re: C1 assembly

    Hal,
Out of all the cars I have worked on, I have never seen one of those tunnel's. On the soft top outside brackets, if it was a hard top only, the nut plates were not put in. Each car that was on the line got a job number which was written on the inside of the door's and various parts to match everything up with the job................

Another 60 I know of, also doesn't have the tunnel shield.

Seems kind of unlikely to me, but strange things have happened.

I drove my 56 around for a white without the tunnel cover in place. That spinning driveshaft is way too close for comfort. If that front u-jount ever lets go, the tunnel reinforcement might be the only thing saving you.

My suggestion, if it ain't there, put it in.
