    That's not necessarily always the case. Assembly plants would have sent previous model parts back to the distribution center. (parts warehouse)

    The new design dipstick for 64 was used for a good reason. With the 63 system, the PCV system was drawing air in through the poor seal at the dipstick. The new design corrected the problem.

    The new design was developed and ready to ship well ahead of the introduction of the new 64 model.

    What part numbers are shown in the 64 AIM for the standard and HP chrome sticks? Is there a revision that shows the 63 part numbers?

      Pictured is a NOS 64 Corvette dipstick (GM #3846810) that I bought many years ago at a swap meet. It has a tag with the number "3846810" hand written on it. It really does look like it is NOS.

      I recently sold another NOS 64 Corvette dipstick on Ebay (see Ebay #260379226981) with a real GM part number label but with a steel "bell shaped" stop and with EMBOSSED (not debossed) "ADD", "FULL", and "ENGINE OIL" as well as the letter "M" near the top of the stick just below the rivets.
      Which one is "correct" for the 64 Corvette? It seems like you believe that the one with the rubber stop is "correct".

      The "B" dimension (20") as shown in the 1964 Chev. parts catalog does NOT agree with either one of my NOS 3846810 dipsticks (See picture at left).

      Dave;

      That is the part number for the NOS dipstick that I have. I remember the 810 part of it. However, my dipstick is embossed, not debossed. The rubber nipple is the same as the one in your picture. Not sure why some would be embossed, and some would be debossed.

        Ed,

        My two NOS 3846810 dipsticks that I recently sold on Ebay were embossed but had the metal bell stop. They must have been made at a later date than yours. As far as I know GM # 3846810 was still available in January 1990 since the number was not changed or discontinued according to my Chevrolet & GM Parts History (complete from Oct. 1962 to Jan. 1990).
