Re: Were early C 2's price discounted?
Stan,
If you are referring to when these cars were sold new, I would suspect a number of them were discounted. I have the original sales paperwork from my 1964 convertible. The car was built June of 1964, but the original owner did not purchase it until April of 1965! The total list price was $4686.30, less a "discount" of $786.30. I suspect most of the discount was due to it being a left-over 1964 when the 1965s were available.

If you are talking about being sold under list price, yes. In that era, I could buy anything GM made for invoice, and in later years could purchase them getting some of the dealer holdback.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Were early C 2's price discounted?
Yes, automatic, discounts started at 12-15%, depending on the dealer and then serious negotiations continued from there.
Exceptions, Early SWC's. Even then there were guys who had to have the newest, right now and were willing to pay for it, usually at sticker price.
Dealers really didn't figure out the "Dealer Incentive" or whatever they called the "over charges" until the '78 pace cars came out.

Re: Were early C 2's price discounted?
I remember Bradley Chevrolet in Broken Arrow, Ok. had a new 64 coupe in front of their parts dept for most of the year. The fit of one of the doors was poor. Some would put their feet on the rear bumper or lean against the back while buying parts. The rumor was that the dealer had to buy the Corvette in order to get other cars. They kept the car a long time either due to lack of sales or to avoid having to buy another one. Later in the decade they sold quite a few. I remember in 67 a new Z-28 in make ready with Hap Sharp and Jim Creitz name on it.

I recall reading an article that said the 1963s were going for full sticker price, if you could get one, with very little, if any, over allowance for trade ins.
I believe that, at least initially, 1963s were not being discounted.- Top

I don't know about discounts on new C2's, just remember the local Chevy dealer would put paper up on the showroom windows so you could not see the new Chevy's until the scheduled viewing day. Do not ever remember seeing a new Corvette at my small town Chevy dealer. The new Impalas 61-64 were nice to look at.- Top

Re: Were early C 2's price discounted?
My 67/435 was ordered May 16 1967. By the time the car showed up at the dealership early July 1967 the guy who ordered it had found out what the new 68's looked like. He turned down the 67 and ordered a 68. So my 67 sat at the dealership. The son's of the Dealership started driving the 67 and put a little over 3000 miles on it. The 67 was sold and titled to its first owner 2 Jan 1968 as a used car for $3887.25 . I was told that back in the day if a new car had over so many miles on it it could not be sold as a New Car.Bill Lacy

Re: Were early C 2's price discounted?
For what it is worth; I ordered my 63 on April 5, 1963 and was told to expect a long delvery time by the dealer then in Jefferson, WI. We took delivery on August 8th, although it was prepped for delivery by July 31st. I was coming home on leave with my Buddy, and we couldn't get away until then. The car stickered at $4,661.30 and we paid $4,057.00 + 3% Wisconsin sales tax of $121.71 = $4,178.71. The reason for the discount was that the dealer was a family friend of my buddy in Jefferson. I was from Racine, but as it was my understanding that many dealers were marking up the 63's and there was a long lead time for delivery, this was considered a good deal at the time. I had previously tried to order in El Paso, TX and Las Cruces, NM, but could not get assurances of a delivery or a reasonable price - so it was worth the trip back home.
