'62 Seat Belt Buckle color

I can't find my JG so maybe someone can help.

A friend and I both own '62 Fawn Beige cars - the question is what color is the seat belt buckle mechanism - more specifically the handle on the female side? Should it be painted - and if so, what color? Or, natural silver color.

I wish I could tell you for certain, but I think the buckles for a 62 are similar to the 63's and are natural or polished finish on the paddles. Not painted.

Thorny issue...depends on VIN and the luck of random pull from the seat belt storage bin!

"...Buckle release casting appears painted (color matching) on all early to mid-1961 models; (approximately serial number 5500), a mixture of painted and unpainted on later 1961 through approximately serial number range 2,500 in 1962; unpainted only from about 1962 serial number 2,200 to end of model run..."

The JG also seems to say that if your serial number is from 1 to 2200 and you decide to paint the release, the paint should match the belt color.

The chart on page 9, at least in one instance, references a painted Buckle Front as either black, red or beige
