    Body Mounts

Same question- different take! I torqued the new body mounts according to the AIM and never reached 25 ft-lbs let alone the 35 to 55 as recommended. All that seems to happen (especially #3) is that the rubber "extrudes" around the large flat washers and distorts the door gaps. So --- what should the mount compressed thickness be limited to??? Seems like a more rational way to view the problem as the chassis had to be shimmed in the first place and the compressed dimension of the rubber seems critical to maintaining that relationship. The car is a 65 small block convetible.

    Re: Body Mounts

Hi Tom, assuming the rubber pads are 'after market' not original GM, I've heard rumors that some of rubber repro parts are made from 'reclaimed' rubber, not a pure new rubber as GM did. They tend to break down faster than the original GM rubber parts. Only a guess, might be worth trying GM pads if they arn't already.

      Hi Tom,
Another thought, if you have torqued the bolts evenly resulting in a stressed door gap, without reaching fulll spec, you might re-examine your shim count.
Sounds like one or more of the mounts may need more shims.
