How do you test out the TCS Solenoid on a 1970 350/350? If it is bad does anyone sell parts to repair? Who rebuilds them?

Re: TCS Solenoid 1970
Les,
There Is A Easy Way To Test Solonoid, Use A Test Lamp, One Side Will Be Power The Other Ground, Take The Test Lamp And Touch The Ground Side With The Test Lamp, this Will Act As A Ground And Solonoid Will Click, Next Start The Car And Ground The Solonoid Again With The Vaccum Hose Off At Dist. Vaccum Should The Flow As You Ground Test Lamp. Hope This Helps EdNew England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: TCS Solenoid 1970
On the 1970 350/350 hp (L46) vacuum is supplied to the distributor when the electrical circuit is broken (off), and vacuum denied when electrically enabled, (turned on). Vacuum is sourced on the single in-line port side, and vacuum to the distributor is vented off, from the opposite in-line port adjoining the right angle port going to the distributor.
JACK will jump in here, he has a really good way of explaining the TCS system, as evidenced by his fine article in the recent Restorer.- Top

Re: TCS Solenoid 1970
Ah heck, TCS and CEC were pretty much the same thing with the one year only CEC being a smart combination of parts (single solenoid that did both the vac switching and curb idle RPM control). Now that Vinnie unearthed my ages old article, it's in NCRS 'public domain' and I don't need to comment further...- Top

Robert is correct, temp overide not withstanding, Shifting to 3rd or 4th grounds the trans switch, disabling the TCS. There is no vacuum at the rear carb to solenoid hose, as this acts as the vacuum vent, or break.- Top
