    78 Pace Car decal question

In 78 when a pace car was shipped, how many boxes were used for the decal set. 1 box, or were there 2 ??

    Thanks !

    Tom;

My son has an original 78 P.C. with the decals still in the box - that's one box. I'm almost positive of this as he had them at the winter meet last year when he recieved a T.F. with the car. I'm sure you'll get other replies, but I'll send him an E-Mail to have him check in on the TDB when he gets into JFK tonight.

      Thanks Stu !

We thought one was correct, but started second guessing as we discussed it.

Seems you always see cars with two boxes, but they most likeley are the replacement decals.

        Tom:

I agree with Stu (and Brian)...one box. And in fact the correct part number is 476282. All other boxes have a decal in them and were service replacement. GM# 476282 was an assembly and containe decals and the instruction sheet. I'm doing an article for the Restorer on this topic.

Interesting enough, a low mileage Pace Car came up on ebay with several boxes plus the spoiler in the wrapper...actually pretty cool. I concluded those are extra decals that got passed along with the car.

This car that you mentioned is the one that prompted my question.

You gonna pick it up for the dealership? I'm curious what the reserve is...I'd say at least $40k.

Of course this obviously documented Pace Car suggests that spoilers were installed at the dealer and therefore we should be taking an appropriate deduct for installed spoilers...not unlike what we do for decals on doors.

Probably not going to buy it for the dealership, as we have 2 already, VIN #0003 and 6502 both L82 4 speeds.

My brother is looking at this one.

Tom R, as I am sure you know the standard is with NORMAL dealer new-car preparation.

Otherwise those of us with fixed antennae should have them, the wheel covers, and the license frames in the storage compartment, plastic on the seats and steering wheel, and cardboard floor covers.

Each National Team Leader has to decide what constitutes NORMAL dealer new-car preparation – when I was NTL I did it in consult with the National Team Leader, but I don’t know exactly how that goes now days.

Interesting...didn't know that...but than there is no reason why I would

Hmmm...sounds like the "fudge" rule. Of course a Pace Car with a spoiler in 78 would not have been normal but than since 1980 very much normal.
