    Bolts question, AGAIN??

Still doing some "maintenance/restoring" of the chassis of my 67 and had ANOTHER bolt question. Around the transmission area what headmarking/grade/finish is typical. For example the side cover on transmission, the tailstock bracket. The judging guide spells out the transmission to bellhousing to engine but I couldn't find anything about other bolts. The main reason I asked is I have a garage sale variety or mixed bag of different bolts for different areas AND almost none are matching. I'm kind of worried about not having the correct grade. I also didn't know if any of the bolts had any finish on them or if you just relied on oil or transmission grease to keep them from rusting. Thanks again for any input. Take care, Shooter

    Re: Bolts question, AGAIN??

    Henry,

Side cover bolts for 67 are 5/16-18 thread grade 2, headmarkings could be. SBC, RSC, L, TR, RBW and several others.
Tail shaft housing bolts, 3 top are grade 2, 3/8-16 thread typical headmarkings are SBC, RBW. 3 lower bolts are 7/16-14 thread grade 5. Typical headmarkings L5 and TR..
Usually the plating on these bolts was black phosphate.

    Hope this helps,
    Rich
