can any one give me advice on removing the stainless trim around the upper rear window area? will i need a special tool?

You'll need a reveal molding removal tool, and a shim to keep it from scratching the Plexiglas window. This is covered in great detail, with lots of illustrations, in the "Corvette Body" section of the Chassis Service Manual.- Top

As shown on the C08 sheet in the Assembly Manual, the edge of the vinyl was trimmed off at the tangent point where the vertical and horizontal edges of the opening joined - it didn't extend under the rubber gasket.
The reveal molding removal tool (photo below) is available at any auto parts store for about five bucks.

i found and used the tool. i found grinding the back edge lets you get a better bite on the clip. after i took off one side i saw how it worked and what to do to make it work better for this trim. because of all the factory caulking it helps to put upward pressure on the trim with a door panel clip tool, a helper doen't hurt either.- Top
