    Low oil pressure

OK, I took the '55 out for a run on 395 North to get a few hills on the motor at higher speeds.Wanted to get it ready for the trip to the Tahoe meet in May... I have 700 on a rebuilt 265 V8. About 5 miles into a 12 mile round trip, the oil pressure dropped to 15-20 lbs. I never went over 65 mph, the grades are gradual.Temp stayed constant at 185 degrees. Nursed the car home and now hear a knock coming from the pan area... OUCH. When I pull the pan and look at the pump, what should I look for to see if the pump has failed? Any telltale signs? Should I pull motor to check rod and main bearings as well?

    Thanks,

    Mike
