My '72 was missing the door ajar switch when I bought it. I purchased new ones but threads on one of the holes that it goes into isn't cooperating. I checked the archives to find out what the treads are but the only refrence was that it was a pipe thread. It looks like it is 1/8" fpt, yes? I'd hate to damage it beyond repair using the wrong tap. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that it's 1/8" NPT. However, to absolutely confirm that, just take a 1/8" NPT tap and make a test tapping in a piece of scrap steel stock. If the new switch threads in like it should, you've 100% confirmed that the 1/8" NPT tap is what you need.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C3 door switches
I just went through this. I used a 11/32-24 tap. The biggest problem was that the threads were stripped out of the metal backing plates. I ended up pulling them out, welding the holes closed, drilling & tapping. A lot of work, but now it's right.- Top

Re: C3 door switches
Tried that in a 1/8" coupling but the plastic piece that holds the wire won't fit in. I ended up borrowing a 1/8' die wich is larger at the starting end and spun it onto the switch. I ended up treading the plastic piece but confirmed that it was in fact 1/8" fpt. Thanks- Top
