    radio capacitor in PW harness

In the power indow harness that plugs into the PW relay, there is a brown wire that should be terminated to a radio capacitor. Anyone know where that capacitor is located? Dash cluster? Thanks,

Crack a book... Flip your copy of the 1967 AIM to the radio option section in the back (RPO U69) and turn to Sheet A4.

Note the call out for Item 5, 1960960 capacitor and its companion note to the effect of RPO A31 Ignition Lead. There are no discrete capacitors called out as part of the basic A31 power window option...

Hi Jack, thanks for the reply, I see the diagram in the AIM. Let me ask you this; In the PW relay on the drivers footwell should I have power on the brown wire? (the one designated for the radio capacitor?)

        Ray,

yes the brown wire to the capacitor should have 12 volts.

Thanks, here's what happens; when you plug in a relay with the key off, the windows work fine. Once the key is turned on, the relay fails and the windows wont work!? I have gone thru 3 relays so far. If I just jum from red to red and leave the brown out of the equation, the windoes work fine, with the ignition on or off!

            Ray,

Check the terminal that the power windows wire is pluged into on the fuse box. Does it have power when the ignition is turned on. And in case you did not now the power windows is supposed to work with the key on or off for mid years.
Next I would check the wires going into the relay on both the new and original harneses and make sure they are in the correct position on the plug. I have had several harnesess from all the leading suppliers that had a wire switched on me.

Hi Rich, yes there is power to the hot from the fuse when the ignition is on or off.
If you are looking at the relay connection like the letter "T", the bottom should be the hot from the fuse, the top left would be the red going to the window switch, and the top right should be the brown?
              Thanks,Ray

                Ray,

I don't have any PW harnesses handy to check for you right now. I have several originals but they are in a shed behind the shop and thier mixed in with 200 other midyear harnesses and would take several hours to go through to check out. Maybe someone else with a harness handy can answer that for you.

                  Rich -

One exception to that - the '67 power windows were designed to operate only with the key in the "on" or "accessory" position, as noted on page 27 of the owner's manual and in the '63-'67 Operations and P.V. book.

                    John,

Thanks for the info I should have remembered that as the last P/W car I did for flight judging was a 67 (finised and judged in 06) and it got 100 on opps.

Hi Guy's and thanks for your input! Interesting that the 67 only works with the key on, I did not know that myself.
I orderd a new relay from Zip and I will transpose the top twn leads, putting the brown to the left and the switch red on the left. I should get the relay Friday and I will give it a try and let you know. Thanks again,

Just an update: My ignition switch was no good. Leaking voltage on the brown wire going to the relay. I replaced that, installed the new relay and grounded it. Seems to be working fine now, thanks to all for the help!
