    1962 Body Mounting

Have a 62 with the body off the frame, was bought like this, so we have no idea where or how many shims are needed. Am I right in assuming you start with one shim at all ten body mounts and then add additional shims as needed to make up any gaps?
Also what harm would be done by adding two or three shims to raise the body a little? The reason I'm asking is the tunnel has been reglassed by Bubba and it is closer to the tranny than it should be. We want to install a Tremec 5 speed and are worried about clearance.
    Thanks
    Terry

I am thinking that you could run in to a problem at the front Rad support if you go too high.

      Terry...
Shims should only be added as you bolt the body to the frame. You see the gaps that require shims when the body is setting on the frame. Not all body bolts need to be shimed. shims also play some effect to how the doors will fit. Rear shims and the Rad support play major roles.
Somewhere in my Vette-Rod building memory said's that the tunnel for a Tremec 5 speed requires some tunnel work. I know they have models now that now fit the original shifter hole. Best check with them for C1 installation instructions

        Re: 1962 Body Mounting

When installing a Tremec 5 speed it is common to have to re-shim the body as over time the rubber mounts compress. The Tremec fits so tightly in the tunnel area that almost any compression of the shims can cause a interference problem. Also don't forget to remove the ashtray well from the floor as it is in the way of the Tremec.
This is a great conversion for driven Corvettes.

Starting at one or two shims is a starting point ,then the doors determine weather you add more or less.Shims you get in repro kits doesn't mean you have all of what you need.
Once the 8 cab shims are installed the door gap is determined by shimming the two rears fender areas and the front radiator support.

We have the instructions for the 5 speed. So we are aware of the ash tray interference. Is there an article anywhere about using the shims properly or mounting the body?
              Thanks
