How do you know they are GM Engineers? (not trying to be mean, just curious)

This picture was taken shortly after Eb Rose was hired by Ed Cole for the Corvette Racing Program.

Is that a headrest on the deck or a illusion? Would you give more information on the car and event?
        Regards

What I believe to be the steering wheel rim looks too dark to be red and it looks as if the tail pipes extend way beyond the exhaust chrome.

The late Steve Koss, a FL chapter member for years, was working at GM Engineering during the early and mid '50's. He told me how they made the head rests and the SR-2 style windshields you see in the photo's.

The 1955 car in McDorman's collection is an example of an early engineering prototype. While the windshield and headrest on the car are not the one's GM installed, they are very good reproductions. The early photo's that I have of that car show both the headreast and windshield's. The original ones were removed sometime in the 1955-e'57 era. I first time I saw that car they were both gone. In later years, the paint popped on what turned out to be holes that the head rest was bolted on thru.
