Re: How do you date code a tire ?

All tires made for sale in the USA after early 1971 have a federally mandated code. It is available to the public on, of all places, the Internet, as well as in federal documents -- and by the way tires for sale in Canada require the same codes.

Tires made before that have a proprietary code -- that is it is a code developed by the tire manufacturer and kept by them as a trade secret. To the best of my knowledge the only proprietary codes available are for Goodyear. At that the only Goodyear codes that have been published are for 1968 to 1971.

In all these cases the tire codes are a combination of letters and numbers made by a tag that is placed in the mold that forms the tire -- so that the code is a part of this series of letters and numbers depressed in the sidewall of the tire.
