    Dating a 79 Corvette jack

I just located a jack that I believe was removed from a 79 Corvette years ago. I would like to confirm the date since my memory is a bit weak !

date is 8K17 Can anybody help with the date code on this ?

    Thanks !

    Hi Tom
If the stamp is on the square bar support area and not the thin scissor or also stamped on the rivet then 8K17 is 1978 Nov 17th
    Hope this helps.

      Thanks Grant !

That's what it came from ! Just second guessed myself when i looked at it. This jack was in a 79 when new. With the November date, this jack would be OK for a 78 too then, wouldn't it ?

      Thanks !

        Hi Tom
Early 79 is absolutely correct. If you want it for a 78 then it must be a late Dec 78 car. Thanks, Grant

Can't help myself, Tom---by your heading, if you're dating a 79 jack, you're pretty hard up--especially on a Saturday night.
          Regards,
          Mike

            Grant !

            I think I had a dummy moment. A late Dec 78 car would have been a 79 wouldn't it ?

The November date would only make this jack good for a 79. Right ? I think I'm thinking too hard.

Yes, 1978 production was long over by the time this jack was manufactured. It would only be correct for a 1979 manufactured within 6 months after the date. In all liklihood, it was used on a 1979 manufactured within a time frame of 1 week to about 6 weeks after the date on the jack.
