    Re: A212CW Filter screen

    Hi Gary,

That's all of the text on the entire element. The text was embossed and never painted or color stamped.
My research indicates the element is correct for 65 396 vette, 66 390/425 427 vette, 66 327 vette,
    65/66 396 427 impala, 66 396 427 chevelle.

Re: A212CW Filter screen; embossed = raised

      Jody,

Are the letters embossed (raised)? Or are the shapes cut into the material?

Here's the "diamond" pattern; someone bought on ebay for $100. I don't see the "flat" wire, so maybe this one is later GM.

          Gary,

I just took it out in the sun and really looked and I believe the text is embossed (raised). The most obvious feel & look of being raised was the word "TYPE."

            Bob,
Unless you want to specify what vintage AC212CW you are interested in this thread will get very confusing.

Having said that, I'll give you my vote for 1970-1972 original AC212CW filters -- but you have to recognize there are a lot of opinions on this subject and since I am no longer the National Team Leader for that group my opinion counts for Jack ....

Expanded metal with long dimension vertical, "Best way ......" silk screen, and A212CW in raised letters. I have seen some 1970 with AC212CW on the raised letters, with the C in a stylish script that emulates the AC logo, but I would be reluctant to label that style “early” or 1970..

Yes, Wayne, Terry, Mark and if those are round wire, they would be correct for a Mid-Year.
Jody, don't forget the '67's also.

                    Jody -
Is this impression on both sides of the filter or only one?

Mark - the pics of the '69 dated box and filters - are you saying that both ink print and the text impression is on that one filter?

                      Ronald,

The letters are only on 1 side. I've enclosed a picture of the non-letter side.

                        Jody, thanks,

How many "notches" on the inner side, and then on the outer side?

Do you have a picture of the entire top/bottom surface?

                          Ronald,

Here are the top and bottom pics. There are eight notches on the inside and outside.

Very interesting & thank you for the detail.

Those notches were used to hold the paper in place as the filter was made.

It would seem that the mold of this version is no longer in existence, although the mold for later versions that have notches on the outer ring and a rib on the inner (top & bottom) was saved from the metal scrappers.

I believe Richard Fortier had the molds for sale in the last Driveline.

                                Jody,

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe that the molds Richard Fortier has are for the same filter design that you've shown in your photos.
