67 ignition and headlight switch questions

I'm dealing with a May 67 car, very original except for paint, exp. tank, and a few other things. It has been partially disassembled since 1979.
    Ignition switch questions:
    1) AIM says switch should be 1116686, while 66AIM indicates that for 66 it should be 1116673. My switch has the 673 cast in the body. Wrong? Seems that by May they would have utilized the 686 switch if, in fact, they did make that change.
    2) AIM for 67, and 66, and 65 shows, on UPC section 6, page B4 as well as UPS 12, page B4, an interesting way of attaching the bulb to the back of the switch housing. Where does that come from?

    Headlight Switch Question:
67 AIM shows part number 1995131 for the headlight switch--mine is a D/R switch, but has 142 stamped on the bottom (generally reflecting that last three digits of the GM part number). Replaced? Wrong?

I know those questions are a bit nit-picky, but I like to know what I have and what's right.

    THANKS!

Re: 67 ignition and headlight switch questions

Mike - Based on my experience of looking at various 1967 Corvette and my Sept 1966 build 67, I would expect a 686 ignition switch and a 142 headlight switch in a 67 Corvette. These are the two switches I found in the car when I bought it in 1983 and still have in the car. I too was curious about the 142 headlight switch based on the info in the 1967 AIM but after looking at numerous 67 Corvettes and finding the 142 switch (too many 142s in 67s to believe all the 131s failed and were replaced with 142s), and checking the Parts book and finding the 142 listed, I am convinced that the 142 is the OEM headlight switch in the 67 Corvette.

Both the 673 and 131 switches will work as I'm sure they are but my conclusion is that I would not expect them as OEM a 673 in a 1967 Corvette.

Isn't there a part number change in the 67 AIM for either the headlight or ign switch? I don't have the 67 AIM here but I thought I remembered a change. I'm probably thinking of some other switch??

Re: 67 ignition and headlight switch questions

Mike - I made an err in the headlight switch number. The number of the headlight switch in my 67 and what I have seen on other 67s is a 149 not a 142. Please double check the number of the headlight switch you have for your 67. Pete
