    Paint Code 988

Hey there - I was wondering my Burgundy '69 (paint code 988) was the same color as the Cordovan Maroon of '68, and also the Marlboro Maroon of '67? They all share the same paint code of 988 and from the examples I can see on the net they look very similar.

Did they simply change the name for each year, or are they different shades?

Thanks in advance for any feedback -

    Cheers,
    Rob

Ask your local auto paint supplier. They should be able to determine that from the paint formulas

The 1967, 68 and 69 colors for 988 look close to each other but the only way to tell is as Steve pointed out is to look at the individual formula

In addition GM used paint code 988 in 1971 for Steel Cities Gray Metallic and for Steel Cities Gray Firemist Metallic in 1972.

To me it looks like GM recycled paint codes in the early days.

what do the GM guys have to add?

Yes, 988 codes are for "A" maroon, '66 Milano also.
No, they not the same formula (color/shade).
'70 and '67 Marlboro Maroon are the same color, but with different codes.
GM started early to be messing with our minds .

Mike- they were indeed messing with our minds...I went down to my paint guy and looked at the paint first hand. Same code - different shades or (as Bruce points out) different colors altogether?!

          Thanks for the replies -
