    C2/C3 Aluminum Dolly

I am in the process of building the ultimate dolly and trying to accomodate C2 and C3(up to 72) cars. I have read all the gm frame layout drawings and posted references for body mounting hole locations and have determined physically measuring an actual frame is the best. I have completed my C2 drawing locations for a reference and a table for the same measurements for 68-72. All measurments are to the top and center of the mounts. The rear mount is the only one requiring a bit of work. I put a rod in the center of the rear mount that dropped down 10" and then put a long straight edge across all three frame mounts forward of the last mount to get the horizontal measurement and the rise to the top of the mount, see note 1 on the PDF attached. If anyone has a good bare frame around that could help me I would appreciate it. After this is complete I will post a 3D picture of the finished dolly which will allow for changes in height and flipping the body to work on the bottom.

    Thanks Dave

I have one of theirs and that is why I am going to produce my own. The Nuair dolly is well made but does not allow for easy shimming, adjustable work height or tilting on its side to work on bottom clean-up.

        Gotcha.
I assume (?) it's not possible to modify the NuAir one to do as you wish?

I've spoken with the guys from AutoTwirler at the last couple of Corvette shows I went to, and the changes they made between Bloomington and Carlisle of last year made a very good rotisserie into an excellent one. If/when I ever work on my deer-hit 71, I'll be getting one.

          Dave,
Also note that the Nuair dolly has rigid center casters which inhibits free movement of the dolly in tight spaces, I would encourage you to have a swivel center casters.

            Re: C2/C3 Aluminum Dolly

Hello Dave. I made a frame to hold the body of my 65 roadster a few years ago. Made it from 2" square tubing, it was a perimeter frame with risers at each of the body mounts. I made an AutoCAD drawing of the frame before cutting welding all of the steel. The top of each body mount riser included a 2" section of the tubing on it side with a hole drilled in the top to mount a bolt & nut through it to hold the body in place. It also allowed for the shims to be used. I'll look for the drawing and pictures of the frame. good luck with the project.

            Jason

Thanks for the note Jason, It sounds similar to my design I will post the C2 portion of the project in the next couple of days but I would sure like to get the C3 info to incorporate into the design if possible. Also I used 3" aluminum tubing on the bottom frame to eliminate flexing.
