door glass fit on 66 conv

i have always had an issue with the pass side windoe on my 66 convertable. with the top up you have to lower the window an inch or so to shut the door. i always figured that it had to do with the top. them i put the hard top on and had the same issue. it is only the rear top that hits. the front has no room to adjust to make up for this and it is straight across the top. could this be a coupe window? bill

Bill, Does the window have any free up/down movement? Try to see if the window is out of the track or loose in the sill.

it is tight in the track and tight in the front (vent window) channeland goes up and down smooth and straight. it is straight across the top what hits is the upper rear corner indicating to me it is an issue with the glass. i rebushed the window 2 yrs ago.

        Bill,

It has been awhile since I've been inside the door but as I recall there is some adjustment that can be made to the rear door glass stop bumper. I'm not sure if that would help your situation but just a thought that crossed my mind.

Bill, This might be a stupid question, but did you compare the glass profile with the left door which, I assume fits correctly?

The glass is DIFFERENT (part numbers) between a coupe and convert. On a coupe the upper rear corner is rounded to fit into the upper track corner. I don't recall the corner on a convert, as I don't own one and never paid much attention.

i did that just before i read your post, seems the drivers side that is ok tapers down a bit, which aleviates the problem. i assume coupe glass can be installed in a conv door. this must be the situation here.

Nope. The rear of the coupe glass is completely different than the convertible; the coupe glass angles rearward to the top, and the convertible glass angles forward to the top. If you had coupe glass in a convertible, you wouldn't be able to close the door at all unless the window was all the way down.

Make sure the glass is fully seated at the rear of the sash channel, the weatherstrips are correctly installed on the top rails, and the height of the top is correct (where the hinge mount bracket attaches to the birdcage).

that is percisley the issue. because the top of the rear hits the gutter trim of the hard top when all the way up. this is because it angles rearward as it goes up and it needs to go inward like a conv. i think i am able to shut the door with the window up all the way but for 1 or 2 inches is because when i rebuilt the door inards i compensated some by pushing the vent window frame forward all it would go and also notced today as compared to the drivers side the lack of gap between the windshield post and vent frame on the pass or issue side
