    1967 Heater Box

On a 67 non A/C car is the outer heater box secured by speednuts that are silver or black?

    Thanks

    Hi Jeremy
The original speednuts were black phos (or dark gray)

It was an asphaltic material, like undercoating, thinly sprayed along the seams of the box to the firewall as a seal to keep the engine fumes from entering the passenger compartment.
Typically, applied rather sloppily with runs.
              Definitely not pressed-in like caulking.
Occasionally, we have seen a few cars with a really tight fit in that area without the sealer, or maybe it was just an oversight.

That was a water test repair sealer - same stuff used in later years on grommets; it wasn't specified as part of the heater blower box installation, but was obviously used on-and-off as a preventive measure.
