    1969 ZL-1 on Ebay

So.....is anybody bidding on this "one of two built" ZL-1s?

Nice project but judging from the current bids, no one is buying that it is an original ZL-1 as claimed.

He states it's a "Tribute" car. And the car was built 10/68, but the motor is a 6/69 build.

I believe his "out" is when he refers to "...This 1969 ZL1 is a one off tribute....". Sounds like clone speak to me.
      Best regards,

I remember Grumpy Jenkins running a Vega down the track in the 70's. Suddenly many street guys wanted to put V8's in the Vega.

Here's the Vega I was thinking about. Jenkens ran a 331 engine and turned in mid 9's.

He could have, I don't know for certain. I do like those Chevy II's though. I believe Chevrolet picked him up in the 60's at some point. I think he mostly had Camaro's from what I can tell. I recall that Vega surprised many people and got a lot of press in the 70's. Since it was my high school years, I remember it well.

You're right. Grump ran a '66 Chevy II in A/stock and then moved into Super Stock.

The book SUPER STOCK, Racing the Family Sedan, by Larry Davis has LOADS of great pictures and information from those days and nights. CarTech Auto Books. It's well worth the $.

My early rememberances of Bill Jenkins were with "Old Reliable I" a Dave Strickler driven 409 powered maroon Biscayne at the 1961 NHRA Indy Nationals. I have 8mm movies of that race and car which I took with a $10 Kodak. In 62-63 they ran 409 & 427 Z-11 cars with a great deal of success. I believe they had factory help during this time. They ran Dodges during 1964 as the Dodge Boys. In 1965 Bill drove and ran a 1965 Hemi Plymouth called "Black Arrow" ( I believe it was named after a boat that his parents had owned.) In 1965 there were a large stable of Chevrolet Jr Stockers that ran under the Jenkins Competetion banner. These were national record holders. The most famous may have been a 55 two door named Monster Mash. I should still have a Jenkins business card from the 65 Nationals with the recommended spark plug for the 409 on it. In 66 at the World Finals I remember Jerre Stahl with a Hemi beating Jenkins Chevy II by the slimmest of margin for the third time that year. At the 67 Nationals I believe Bill was running big block Camaros. At the 69 Springnationals I remember him repairing Muncies after every few runs, probably a A/MP car. After a race he won in Tulsa in the early 70's with a Vega, he fired up a corn cob pipe with what I thought was a special blend.
                          Regards
