    clutch safty switch 71

finally got this connected, but the car has allways started without it. the wiring must be bypassed somewhere, but I can't find it. Any input would be great, thanks in advance.

Originally there was a 2-cavity female connector with two 12-ga. purple wires in it that plugged onto the switch terminals; when the clutch was depressed, that switch closed and enabled current flow to the starter solenoid "S" terminal from the purple wire at the ignition switch. I'll bet if you dig around you'll find that 2-cavity connector with a cotter pin or something stuffed in it to jumper across the terminals.

Or something like this! It was a lot harder to undo than a cotter pin.

the plug is intacted, and plugged into the jumper that plugs into the switch. I dont have voltage at this plug either. according to the wiring diagrams the purple wire goes back to the ignition switch. trying to trace the power source.

          Vincent,

Here was the root cause with my car. The connection at the bulkhead connector was corroded which caused all sorts of intermittent trouble.

            Vince -

The purple wire only has power on it with the key in the "start" position.
