When I got my 55 the heater fan was making noise and turning real slow.
I pulled it out cleaned everything and found the bronze support bearing was worn. In looking for solutions I decided to see if I could repair it with a regular bearing. I foumd a bearing silghtly wider than the correct width, the correct diameter but the hole was too small to fit the shaft. Rather than remove the bronze bearing from the shaft I cut it down to fit the bearing. I assembled the motor and it does work fine. I am not sure just how long GM used this heater but the repair does work for 53-55 and probably later. The first picture is the original parts. The second shows the bearing and the cut down armiture. Third shot is the bearing on the shaft and the last is how the bearing fits in the case and the box the bearing came in. Hope this helps someone else.
