Help trouble shooting electical system and Transistorized Ignition System for 71

I need help trouble shoot my ignition system wiring as I am getting no spark. When my car was last running, some of the ignition related wires were being bypassed and the car was using a MSD distributor and amp, etc.

After having the engine rebuilt, I have put the original distributor back in and connected the distributor, amp, coil, etc. back to the original wiring. I had the distributor, amp, and coil tested prior to re-installing them and the components supposedly work.

I have tested the voltage to the starter and it gets around 12 volts when in start position. The starter does crank the motor.

When I test the voltage on the lead from the starter to the distributor positive lead, I get around 3 volts. This is true whether cranking the motor or just in the run position. Should this get a full 12 volts when attempting to start and aroung 3 volts while just running? Or is the 3 volts at all times (run or start position) correct?

I also ran a jumper wire directly from the battery to the positive side of coil and still did not get spark with a 12 volt power supply, so there must be an additional problem.

I have tested the connectivity of the wiring to and from the TI amp and the TI wiring harness wires seem to be fine. And I think the wires are consistent with the wiring diagram.

Any suggestion on best approach to diagnose what is going on?

Also, I was specifically wondering about the posibility to check the leads to and from the distributor (even though this would have in theory been checked when I had the distributor tested). Is there a way to disconnect the connector and test whether the two wires going to distributor are functioning properly? Going to the distributor side of the connector, one wire is white and one is white with a green stripe. Should I be able to crank the engine and get a pulse each time the distributor magneto rotates around? If so, which wire should have that output? And if that connector is not fastened, do I need to bridge connect the other wire to complete the circuit or something like that???

just set the meter on millivolts and connect the leads to both the wires,white/green white coming from the distributor and when you spin the engine you shold see the meter needle move back and forth. i have trouble shooting flow chart if you need it send me your emaim addy.
