    53-55 horn Trivia

I've had some people e-mail me asking why the new horn kit they got don't work ,the bushings don't fit the horn ring. Some suppliers list the horn kits saying used for car and 53-55 Corvette (wrong). The car kit having the three bushing connected are to large in size to fit a Corvette horn ring (unless you file them smaller or enlarge the horn ring holes) Original Corvette bushing came separate (clear in color) and the size was smaller.
And the plastic ring was clear in color.
Also the horn contact was brass and separate from it's bushing.
There are some suppliers still selling car kits as Corvette kits.

Roy, I had to modify my horn kit to fit just as you mentioned. The "Vette" kit was identical to the passenger car kit and more expensive....

Hi Roy. There's also a diff in the diameter thickness of the plastic ring that seperates the horn ring from the disc. I too, have found it very difficult to find the correct insulators for the screws. I had to turn them down on a lathe in order to make them fit through the horn ring screw holes.

The disc size is larger on some applications also. Maybe only 1/16th OD larger.

On the 53-55 steering wheels, you have to make sure that you don't paint the inner area where the disc sits. Don't ask me how I know....
