OEM tires came by the thousands, jammed into a rail car herringbone-style, and had no stickers on the tread.Tread stickers were only used on tires for retail sales. Unloading a "tire car" full of frozen tires in the winter was LOTS of fun.

This is the spare tire for my 69. Is this the coating? PICS are bad, I should have skipped the flash.

Re: Blue Coating on Whitewalls - When Removed?

OK, here's the deal. I finally removed the spare from my 63 after some 20+ years and this is what I found. It still had 24 lbs of 1963 air in it.
The following are observations from the front of the tire:
        1) At the 12 o'clock position - the FIRESTONE name
        2) At 3 o'clock - 6.70-15 with the word TUBELESS under it
        3) At 5:30 there is a yellow inspection stamp - the number 31 in a box
        4) At 6 o'clock - The words GUM-DIPPED
        5) At 9 o'clock - The words DELUXE CHAMPION
        6) The whitewall is just under 1'' wide - .965'' to be exact
        7) The whitewall is coated with a pale green coating
        8) The wheel is painted a GLOSS BLACK
        9) The valve stem has a DILL 627 valve cap
The following are observations from the backside of the tire:
        1) At the 12 o'clock position - the FIRESTONE name
        2) At 1:30 the numbers 20853 are melted or molded on the sidewall
        3) At 3 o'clock - 6.70-15 with the word TUBLESS under it
        4) From 3 o'clock to 4:30 - melted or molded into the sidewall are the numbers/letters 022GU550. There are also the words MADE IN THE USA 7-MBRC-3 BD-24359-2 just above the rim.
        5) At 6 o'clock, the words GUM-DIPPED appear along with another inspection stamp. This time it is a white number 10 in a circle.
        6) At 9 o'clock the words DELUXE CHAMPION appear with 6.70-15 4-PLY under it
        7) The backside of the wheel is painted a semi-gloss black with runs and sags in the paint. The wheel weights are on the back side of the wheel.
There is one more detail to note. There is a red line around the entire circumference of the tire. Now all I need to do is find 4 more tires just like this one.

            Mark -

Looks good to me - even has the match-mount wax dot on the tire aligned with the weld "tit" on the rim.
