    Borg Warner T-10 Bearing Retainer

What would be the application for a T10A-6A bearing retainer and will it work on a 1961 C case BW T-10?

    Thanks for any information!

    Ray,

You need a T89B-6 for your T-10. The T10-6B is longer, has the same size bolt pattern and bellhousing hole size.

What is the actual difference in length between the two retainers and how does it impact function?

        Thanks

          Joe,

The 10A-6A is 1/2 inch longer. I have no idea if it would work or not but I wouldn't want to install it to find out. It would limit travel of the clutch disc by the above amount.

there were some 4 speeds out there that had aluminum front bearing retainers and these should never be reused as they cause the T/O bearing to stick in its travel. don't know if any corvette 4 speed trans had this or not.

              Clem,

As a matter of fact, all 1963 transmissions had an aluminum bearing retainer. That's T-10's or Muncie's! Probably because of the small hole in the 621 bell housing. And I have never seen one that was not nearly worn out!

                Joe,

Are there any other differences between the bearing retainers? I have access to a metal lath and can machine off 1/2" from the T10A-6A.

                Thanks for your help!

                  Ray,

There is a hole missing on the longer one but I don't think it would be of any significance in operation. The T-10 retainers have a hole in the bottom rear near the flange. Don't know the reason for the hole. Could be that it might throw a little lube on the throwout bearing but I don't think so. Just don't know about that.

                      Joe,

For your knowledge, I just received an aftermarket T10-6B front bearing retainer and it is almost identical to the T10A-6A. You were correct on the additional 1/2" in length. If one was to mill 1/2" off the T10A-6A retainer I am sure it would work.

                      Thanks for your help!
