    71 distributor housing finish

Is this a semi-gloss finish and is there a pair of borders to start and end. Difficult to determine the original finish through the rust. Also, my original band was silver exposed with the red inward. Replacements advertise silver or red. Is anyone producing the proper combo, silver over red? Grateful as always for any input you can provide, Mike

Mike, I remember buying my band from Paragon and used the red outward. I painted the complete distributor up to the part where it mounts (sits) on the engine.

The important things are not so much paint, check to make sure the advance bushing is still in place and no wear inside where the tach gear and distributor cast interface, wear here will surely eat the mainshaft.

As best I can determine from originals, semigloss black with bare machined surfaces appears to be the original finish.

        Thanks guys,
Timothy, I'm assuming the Paragon tag was silver on one side and red on the other. I see the judging guide states that the red outward was the majority of the configurations. I removed my original with silver outward. An odd duck, I guess. Thanks again. Mike

I've taken original tags off done both ways.

Michael, I agree with Bill, I have seen them both ways.
