    65-66 Steel Wheels

I have a set of steel wheels, they have no bumps for dog dish hub cab. On the inside of the wheel it has: 15 x 5 1/2 k
    8

    K1
    0

On the front of the rim by the valve stem it has: K10 8 valve stem - 1 9

Do you think this is a correct wheel?

I have a set of 64 wheels corrected date -- 8 64 with the KH logo and spare tire with original brand new General Jet-Air white wall tire, never put on the car. I wonder what they are worth...

John, The first set sounds like a service replacement rim. It could be the 8080 wheel or the 65-66 #156 wheel. If you post a pic we can probably id the rims.

Are they riveted together or welded??

By the date code you post, K= Kelsey, 1= Romulas plant, 0=year(1970), 8=month and 19= day of month. The wheels sound like the 8080 wheels but I can't remember if they are welded or riveted.

If you look in the archives there has been some discussion about these wheels and there differences and also pics that may help. Is there a clearance for disc brake calipers?? I think the 8080 is a 5 1/2" wide wheel that looks like there is disc caliper clearance but they will not work on disc cars. I can't remember if the 8080 wheel is stamped 15x5 1/2 K or JK, but I am sure that info is in previous discussions and that may help you ID these.

I always thought my replacement wheels were 8080 because they are riveted but they are replacement 156 wheels (65-66). Don't know why they were riveted and the production wheels are welded.

Sorry I can't answer your question..

          Timothy,

Thanks for the reply. The wheels I have do not have the little step next to the bead like the 880 wheels have. That's what has me confused.
They are welded, no knubs for dog dish hub cabs and has bumps near the valve stem. They look real but don't have kelsey haise logo, they look as if they would pass judgeing with hub cab on, they do clear disc brake caliper. Thanks again.

          John

PS When I learn how to, I'll post a picture.

John, Check out the post on January 4, 2009 for some pics and discussion about these wheels. From your discription, they appear to be Kelsey rims because they have the K stamp in them.

John, I bet they are service replacement 156 wheels. I don't know why mine are riveted. In that old restorer artical didn't Kelsey Hayes get sold or split and became Kelsey?? These wheels may be made by Kelsey not Kelsey Hayes which is why no stamp.

I don't have the article in front of me just memory so I may be not be correct.

                Timothy,
I got the other three wheels plus the spare. Two of the wheels have dates by the valve stem, but with the tire on their a dead ringer for the real thing. Thanks for the come back.

P.S. I went to the archives as far as 25 years back and read everything about steel wheels. Thanks again
