    Correct Carburator

I have a 1970 350/350 4speed with 40k original miles. When I purchased the car the owner gave me what was the original carb and told me a replacement was on the car. According to the Corvette Restoration Guide page 240 the part number of the carb is 7029207 which was on the car.The part number that was in the box was 7029202 that shows for a 1969 350/300 auto. In the NCRS Tech guide it says 7040207 is correct. Which is the proper carb the car runs ok, but i was thinking long term if I wanted to have it judged what to do.

The 7029207 and 7029202 are both 1969 model year carburetors; they were not used for 1970 although they ought to function alright for a 1970.

The GM #7040207 is the correct carb for your application assuming that the car was not a California-delivered car with NA-9. The 7040207 is a VERY difficult carburetor to find and Big $$$$ if you do find one.

      Joe:
Wasn't the 7029207 the service replacement number (as well as the original carb for the 350 4 speed in '69) for many years?

Yes, it was the SERVICE carb for 68-69 Corvettes as well as other 68-69 Chevrolets. However, it was never a cataloged SERVICE carb for 1970 or later applications.

I suspect the fellow who sold you the car either 'spaced' or wasn't the original owner. As others have said, BOTH of the QJets you reference are 1969 models. The sequence is 70XY..... Where Y represents the last digit of the year.

Such happens when a car goes through the hands of multiple owners and parts that were swapped out by a former owner are handed down by subsequent owners as being the 'original' item...

Thanks for your help, the search begins. The car runs good, with the present carb but originality is key.

Les, the 7040207 carb. is very hard to locate as Joe mentioned, expect to pay 1 k and up for a rebuilt original when available, beware of the restampers, do some comparison before making a purchase. RARELY but, sometimes one can be found on e-bay and also check with chiciago corvette, CAUTION is the key word. Steve
