Re: paint recommendations for vacuum tank and other items in engine compartment
That's an area of the restoration job that's an 'art form'. Different parts came from different places. Some were complete assy's purchased by GM and others were made and supplied by GM. They didn't all use the same 'black' paint...
If/when you have the opportunity to see a real time capsule (e.g. a low mileage Bowtie car), the difference in exact shade(s) of black and their specific gloss factors is similar to a patchwork quilt! Those who are serious about restoration are frequently amazed and the subtle differences...- Top

Re: paint recommendations for vacuum tank and other items in engine compartment
Thanks guys. I have the JG, though it doesn't get into recommendations for paint. I am thinking I'll try to match the finish that is still on the parts.
By the way, I have the fourth edition, and page 14 is bland. Anyone out there with a fourth edition have anything on page 14?
Also, anyone out there with an alarm option - my car (1970) has white wires running to hood switch, as well as under dash. I saw another car with brown wire in engine compartement. Did they come either way or is my car wrong?

yes my fourth edition has a page 14 , its title is INTERIOR and has 2 pictures fig I 2.1 and I 2.2 and they show heel and dimmer switch pads (1 original and 1 reproduction) and related information.
It also begins paragraph 3 DOOR and KICK PANELS.I'm sorry I don't have a scanner or I would e-mail you a copy. By the way do you have page 1 and 2 in your fourth edition ? I have a blank yellow page where they should be.1972 LT-1 Elkhart Green Coupe- Top

Re: paint recommendations for vacuum tank and other items in engine compartment
Steve most of the items you listed are black some gloss, semi-gloss, and satin. I would buy cans of Krylon, John Deere Blitz black, SEM and maybe another. Use your parts you have check each can against the parts that way your finish across the car will vary because they were supplied by different companies so the finish would vary. Hope that helps.
