I'm A Newbie ,but Also A Oldbie ,or An Old Fart As Roy Calls Us .i've Belonged To The Club Since 2003 ,never Posted Before, But Have Read Many Posts And Answers. I Have A 55 That I,ve Had Since 1962 ,a 56 Since 1969, And A 59 Since 1972 .now That I'm Retired From Being A Nissan Mech. All My Life, I'm Doing A Body Off On My 56. Have Frame All Done And Ready To Install Rear End , Are Rear Springs Painted Black Or Just Steel Color ? Also I Have A Hood Hinge Mount Broken Out . I See Glass Mandarin Made A Replacement Piece In His Bag Of Tricks, I Think I Could Do One Side Like That, Cutting Back 3 Or 4 Inches On Each Side And Replacing Broken Part, Then Replace Cut Out Part ,any Ideas Would Surely Help.I'm Sure I Will Have Many Threads

the only luck i've ever had fixing those hinge plates is to separate the hood skin from the frame so you can reinforce both sides, other wise you just end up with a 1/4 inch of matting and resin on the outside, #1 it dont fit #2 it'll just pull out again, its more work that way , but as a side benefit you usually end up with a better hood fit, if it were easy anyone could be a restorer

Bruce, rear springs had an aluminum type rust resistant coating. Springs were covered by black paint. Top leaf of spring may show some signs of the rust resistant coating as that was a hard area to paint. Hope this helps.

BTW, do you have a hardtop for your '56? If so please post the plexiglas date codes on rear and both side windows. Am trying to get better date code data on 56-7 hardtops. See this thread for date code format examples.

Welcome to the TDB. Sounds like a fine collection of straight-axles (and it's neat that you've owned them as long as you have).

Are you involved with any local Chapters? If you're within range of Long Island, the Metro-Long Island Chapter has a Judged Meet scheduled for May 31st in Hicksville. There'll be plenty of knowledgeable judges and owners who'd be happy to answer questions, and offer restoration advice and tips.
