I have problems to remove the rear crossmember

I started to remove my rear crossmember on my -66. I have no problems to remove the 2 bolts. But how do I remove the crossmember from the frame? The cushion seems to be stuck on the cushion steel sombrero. Before I start to be too violent, I thought I'd ask you experts out there if you have any magic tricks.

    Hans,
I Saw A Post Recently With The Same Question, A Pry Bar Is All You Need , Wedge The Bar Between The Frame And Mount, Tap W/a Hammer, The Rust Causes The Crossmember To Almost Weld Its Self To Frame Its Only Been 40+ Years. Make Sure Everythings Supported, Once It Breaks Free It Will Drop.

Spray it with a penetrant spray, put the bolts back in half way and use a long pry bar. You'll know when it pops.

Thanks for your quick replies. I will find a long pry bar.

Just dropped the rearend on my 78 and as they say it "pops" when it drops. I used a crowbar and wedged it up between frame and crossmember. The driver's side popped very easy in comparison to the passenger's side. Took many more umphs

When they say pry bar, they do not mean a 18" bar. I have a 5' "pinch" bar that I use and sometimes it takes quite a while to dislodge the bushings. Just be careful. Leave the bolts loose, but in the crossmember or put a floor jack under the differential, leaving about 1/2" clearance.

Yes, a 5' pry bar is what I use. With the wheels removed, come in from the side of the car. If it has been 40 years, be prepared to put your weight into it.
