Re: Diameter of 1977 Antenna ball

    Dale:
You can't go into your local Home Depot and buy a .300" (actually 29/64) with the correct size hole drilled to accept the mast. However- I happen to have a supply of these WITH the hole drilled perfectly centered to accept the mast (don't ask why). If you send me your mast I will knock off the 1/4" ball and retrofit it with the .300 ball for the cost of the ball and shipping. Antone else needs one I will do it for you until the supply is gone (I will make no profit, just for cost so this is not an ad). Glad to help.
    Jeff

Just to keep you informed: 5/16 slipped over (not much air, but it slipped) - so it appears, my mast REALLY has been replaced... But that must have been way back then...

          Oliver,

Tested my original with a 5/16" washer and it will slip, ever slightly over the ball, with a little air. With the service part, lots of room. You may have the real deal after all, don't despair. Not using metric washers now, are we?

Hi Ken, thanks for your encouraging words. But - no - far from despaired (it still looks very original to me... )

Actually I was using a 5/16 socket to try that out - no metric.......

IF my mast ever has been exchanged, this must have been sooo long ago; must have been long before 17 years (because I own my car this long now) and the base of the mast (not the mast itself, but it looks like this base "belongs" to the mast part) is quite rusty.
All the other originality-give-aways (like no more shiny chrome ball, but "yellowish" over the time) fit my antenna.

            Thanks again

Just as an update on my 67, It had no ball on the original mast when I bought it in 1971. I replaced the ball years ago(70's). Now I wonder what the lenght is as did the ball come off or was the end cut off ? Jeff send me an email at Dale0248@comcast.net Thank you Dale
