    Bill;

    Don't tell me you have your Vette trained to "run out of gas" or just conk out on "Q" when you were out in the sticks with a babe. Thought that was just for us mid-westerners that were too cheap to get a room. I liked that part about the Gal wanting to drive your Vette. They don't make those kind of girls anymore, that is, ones that like to drive a stick. Today's girls are all spoiled with the C-5 and -6 with all their amenities. My gal won't even so much as ride in my 63 any more. Last time was about 25 years ago.

        Bill,
        I have fond memories of the Reuben E Lee. I was in high school in Westminster during the early 70's and the old paddle boat was a fixture on my weekly coast highway drive. At the time I had a 64 TR4 (didn't get the vette until college) that I would terrorize the area with. Most weekends I would catch PCH at Brookhurst St and head for Laguna Beach. The drive through Newport scoping out the "scenery" would lead to the open road past Balboa, Emerald Bay to Laguna up to the 133 then back to the freeway home. I can't say I ever ate at the restraunt (the high school budgets didn't allow for it) but I do remember stopping a few time and walking around the paddleboat to explore.
        I have stayed in the area and now live in Palos Verdes. Last summer I took the drive from Pedro to Laguna in the vette (top down of course) and was pretty surprised by the amount of development - wall to wall houses / stores on the ocean side all the way from Huntington Beach to Emerald Bay - they really ruined one of the best drives in CA.
        Keep your stories coming, I really enjoy them and know first hand all the places you describe and the fun that we all had!!

          Bill -

          I remember the Ruben E. Lee very well. We used to spend Summers on Balboa Island in New Port Beach and our big night out would be a visit to the Ruben E. Lee. It was such a special place. Great food and an amazing location.

          Reuben's in Universal City was one of my favorite restaurants growing up...too bad it's long gone.

          Keep the stories coming Bill!!! We need "Bill's corner" article in the Restorer!

            Rob;

            Thanks to you and others for the kind words.

            Vinnie would have none of it...because he knows he'd have to double Reba's salary just taking the unnecessary commas out of my stuff.

            Best regards,

            Bill

              It may not be Vinnie. I tried to get a similar story into The Restorer and the Publication Committee would have none of it either.

                Terry:

                Isn't it amazing how we often undervalue old experiences....usually until its much too late to recount.

                I belong to the 101st Airborne Association and get the Screaming Eagles publication on the same cycle as Driveline...the WWII guys, which made up the preponderance of the coverage when I started, are mostly gone. The Technical Discussion Board is now mostly of newer vintage Corvettes. It's the natural order of things, but it makes me sad for young folks to lose the perspective of how it was when we older types were young.

                Through your eyes, I'm old. Through my eyes, things are exactly the same as they were 50 years ago.

                God help us.

                Bill

                  This thread could of turned really dirty.
                  Yes I find if I pump the accelerator my Vette really likes that. And if I pull the choke ................................
