    Re: c2 spring ID 427?

thanks for all the great answers and support. i tried to resolve this 2 years ago when i put in the new ones and got no where. this is why i joined. my new springs look like the 427 spring shown. any tips as to how to tell if a car was an F41 or can any car be made one with the sum of parts. i have a L72 no pwr brakes 4:11 and steel wheels. with the K66. .

      Will,

If you had F-41 you would have a 7 leaf rear spring not a nine and a 15/16" front sway bar. Rear shacks would not have a tube covering the piston and they would have a very large washer at the top. Someone else can fill you in on the shock PT #'s I don't have that info handy.

when i google 3888250 i found these to be the correct spring for a 427 with standard suspension. they measure 17.35" and have 12 coils that are evenly spaced. does this describe the standard 427 spring? previous post mentioned 3888251 as the std 427 spring.

          3888250 is for 427 without A/C
          3888251 is for 427 with A/C

3888250 has some closely spaced coils (variable rate)
3888251 has evenly spaced coils (constant rate)

The car will sit a little higher with the 3888251. I calculate 1/2 inch higher.

What tag code should be on this "standard 427 spring"?

EA? And what color was the tag from GM?

You can also verify the spring geometry by turning to the Specfications appendix of Noland Adams' Vol 2 restoration book. There, you'll find the geometry of the various front springs used, by option/by year, detailed VERY specifically!
