    Just joined.......

I just joined NCRS yesterday and was hoping I could get some information about getting my car judged. I've owned my 1968 327-350 for about 6 years now and it came with lots of documentation and it seems to be 99% original. I'd love to get the NCRS's opinion and I'm not sure where to begin. Can somebody guide me in the right direction. I live in Portland, OR

    Thanks fellow
    vette owners,

    Rick.

WELCOME ABOARD RICK. It's a great forum. Check when you get your Driveline, it will show local chapters and info for you to contact them. Piece of advise re: documentation you have, preserve it carefully, don't be leafing through it too much. Enjoy & Have fun. Bill

Welcome Rick. There is a very active chapter, the Northwest Chapter, that has many members in the Portland area. Go to the contacts on the tool bar above, click on it and go down to the NW Chapter link. When you get on their web page, you will find several contacts.

Rick, WELCOME! There are a great many true experts on the TDB to answer your questions, whatever they are. Just ask. There are alot of resources available through the NCRS store such as the assembly manual, judging manual, etc. Buy these throuugh NCRS and you will get a very good idea of the 'correctness" of your car and ask questions about those things not covered. Also, search the threads for topics of interest to you. You can spend days!

        CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME!

        Steve

I would suggest you purchase the Judging Reference Guide and download the Judging Sheets (both available at this site). Contact your local Chapter, they will have a judging meet this year. Good luck & welcome! Don H.

Welcoma aboard, Rick! I see in your profile, you have a 1968. My first "baby" was a '68, some 34 years ago. What a "sweet ride" to restore.

Welcome aboard ! Sounds like you have a very interesting car ! Join your local chapter and volunteer your car for a meeting and maybe a judging school. That would be a good way to get your feet wet and learn what to expect with friends who will be more than happy to help you !!!

If it is truly all original, have it looked at by trained eyes before you clean, paint, or restore any parts !

                        Re: Just joined.......

Wow!!! Thanks for the great welcoming!!!! I've been a member here for 1 week now and I'm in awe of the great knowledge, experience, and comradery in this forum. I've never seen or heard of anything like this before!!! I've been reading alot of these discussions and my jaw just drops at the knowledge and passion here. Thanks for having me and for the great advice.

My car (for those that care) is a "68 Coupe 327 (L79), British Racing Green with 46,000 very well documented miles. I'm the 5th owner and have the original build sheet, owners manual, proctecto-plate (sp?) and (I think) the original tank sticker. Do I give the VIN#? The only thing I could find unoriginal are the radio (I have the original), tires, battery, belts, hoses, and at sometime the valve covers were changed.

Anyway, here are some pictures from when I bought it 6 years ago. I've only put on appx. 700 miles since then, so this is what it still looks like.

Thanks alot guys, any input would be much appreciated, Rick.

Sorry, can't seem figure out how to post pictures yet, I'll get back to 'yall

Welcome to NCRS Rick. I also have a 68 L79 with the original chrome valve covers. What type replacement valve covers were put on yours?

Jim, the stupid replacements are brushed aluminum with grooves like fins on them. Also have no jack. Sounds like a replacement jack would be $1000 or more!!!??? Holy ****!!! What have I gotten myself into? Now I'm hooked!!

I'd love to take a tour across the US in a motorhome and see just 30 or 40 of these members' garages. Wouldn't that be a vacation for the ages???? And the wife wants to go on ANOTHER cruise.

Grant, count me in!! It's only 270 miles one-way, I'll make it happen.

                              Rick.
