Original Spare Tire

I have the original sparetire for my 71 convertible.The tire is coded (BHNDL JDY) and the wheel is K 10 8 27 AZ. Any information is appreciated.
Thank You to Wendel Hans for his article in The Restorer. Great information, my tire has the paint mark by the weld and has never been on the car.

K 1 0 8 27 AZ indicates the rim is August 27, 1970. The size code is AZ. K stands for the manufacturer Kelsey and the 1 stands for the plant--all corvette tires were produced in plant #1. As far as the numbers on the tire I have no idea--someone else wll have to answer that question. Paul

Hi Michael,The 1 remaining tire on my 71, #6589, is a Firestone RWL, and has 000MP123. And it means?

Thanks for the information on the wheel. I read your post from 3/8/09 about your cars vin and build date. Mine is very close,8417 Trim tag installed 2/1/71 and completed in the afternoon of 2/2/71. I am surprised that the wheel is that far from the build date. Most of the componets are much closer with exception of the glass. Mike

ASSUMING (and you know what they say about THAT word) your tire was made by Goodyear, the tire was made in the 37th week of 1970 -- that looks like the second week of September 1970.

If it is a brand other than Goodyear, forget this as no codes are available except Goodyear.

Thanks for the reply. In this case you did "ASSUME" correct. I omited the fact that this is a Goodyear Speedway F-70 15 blackwall.
