Re: Lacquer paint
Keith,
I used it with my last paint job and it came out great. Previously, I was using PPG, but the TCP guys recommended it. It is significantly less expensive with good quality and color match. Just be careful because the mix ratio is a little different than PPG.

Re: Lacquer paint
Donald T. your 65's Rally Red paint looks really, really good in your picture. Wonder how this manufacturers same Rally Red would match if I used it for a repair/repaint area on my 68. I used Dupont lacquer in 1984 and the car has been inside my garage most of the time since.- Top

Re: Lacquer paint
Keith, I used it on a 67 chevelle, black, very workable, I sanded between coats to get straight body and scratch free finish. I suggest getting more than 1 gal. of paint, mix all paint together in 1 batch for best match when recoating and especially if you are doing cut in's. Allow plenty of time after buffing before waxing or better yet use, repaintable buffing compound and glaze compound and wax another year. Steve- Top

Re: Lacquer paint
I am unsure about using laquer. My first Vette restoration and have learned alot about what is expected on a restored car. I have done several Camaros and used PPG Concept ureathane on the last one. Looking for advise on what to use. I probably will go the judging rout as it is a "born with drivetrain 70 LT-1" ( no doubt what that means). I will eventually drive it some also. Anyone have any thoughts on this?- Top

Re: Lacquer paint
Keith, I would only offer this one tip (and, as a qualifier, I am NOT a painter).
My tip is. before you decide to use lacquer, take the time to talk to about 10 different, extremely experienced painters. A perfect source, would be guys who restore vintage Corvettes, AND, paint them in-house.
I took the time to visit with 10 different, highly experienced painters. Guys who have painted 100+, up to maybe 500 Corvettes.
My results, ran,.. 70% of those I discussed it with, would not recommend using today's version of acrylic lacquer. Then, 30%, still recommend it. All 10 were experienced in shooting lacquer in the past. I could give you the stated reasoning, but you need to hear it with your own ears.
You can find threads in the archives, that are pro-lacquer, as well as those you do not like today's lacquer. Key word:...."today's" lacquer.
Then consider, are you going to drive your Corvette, or trailer it to shows?
I'm not telling you which to use, only strongly encouraging you to talk to very, very experienced painters. A few of them are registered on this TDB. I'm hoping a couple will come forward.
Good luck. RidgeGood carburetion is fuelish hot air . . .- Top
