    1965 Master Cylinder ?

Does this look like a correct 1965 master cylinder with standard brakes ?

I am still waiting for my JM in the mail and just noticed a leak out of the boot. I just got the car over the weekend and am addressing some of the few mechanical issues it has.

I want to send it out to be resleaved and rebuilt if it is correct.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Correct style, can't see the lettering on the lid, looks like a GM service item judging from the cap color. There is a date code on the bottom of the casting, you can check, and the cap color won't matter once it is painted black.

      Mark,

It could be. If it's the same as '66 it's a Bendix MC the casting number is on the bottom - 2225032 (you'll need a mirror). There should be a "B" also for Bendix and I believe a mold number. The date should be on the bottom too, where the lid clamp clips into place, and I believe it is a julian date. Regarding the lid, the lettering on yours is correct per the JG and it could be gold or painted black (again per the JG).

      Hope that helps,
      Rob

William - the 2nd picture shows the lettering.

On the top it says USE ONLY SAE

On the bottom it says 70 R3 BRAKE FLUID

        Is this corrrect.

On the bottom of the master cylinder will the date be Julian format ?

        Thanks,

        Mark

Everything seems to be correct - my 65 no power came with the lid painted black but either is correct.

            FYI.
I just sent a master cylinder to White Post Restorations and got it back in 1 week and it looks great and functions perfectly.

The casting numbers were hard to read but I can tell they were wrong. The 4 and 9 I could make out don't belong.

                Hey Mark,

I read that you bought a rebuilt with the "correct" casting number. I wouldn't worry about the julian date code of the rebuilt MC as it will not be judged. Also, I would absolutely keep the one that came off the car! It may have been original to your car - who knows. You could check with other '65 owners and the national team lead to check the possibility of that being reasonable.
